- Sickle-Cell Anemia
- SYMPTOMS. Sickle-Cell Anemia may show signs of jaundice (a yellowing of the
- skin), fever, severe abdominal pain with vomiting, intermittent joint pain,
- intermittent back pain and any of the signs of Iron Deficiency Anemia except
- the signs are usually more severe.
- CAUSES. This is a form of hemolytic anemia that is inherited and mostly
- affects blacks. The red blood cells become sickle-shaped and fragile and are
- easily destroyed. Red blood cells are usually round.
- TREATMENT. No specific medication as of yet although it is being researched.
